HOW IT WORKS

Our world is a fertile breeding ground for microorganisms. Untreated water, air, nearly everything we touch – from simple doorknobs and handrails to advanced equipment – abounds in potentially illness-causing bacteria and other pathogens. Livinguard is a breakthrough technology that endows textiles with unparalleled protection from bacteria, viruses and fungi. Treated with a unique composition of antimicrobials that gives them self-sanitizing and self-disinfecting properties, the textiles neutralize microorganisms permanently and continuously.

Livinguard technology builds an active shield into a fabric’s entire cross-section that damages the membranes of microorganisms on contact. Testing proves that it eliminates 99.999% of many types of bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus within 10 minutes of contact with the treated textile1). By contrast, internal tests show that conventional silver-only based antimicrobials manage only to reduce the number of microorganisms by 99% within 24 hours.

Livinguard technology endows textiles used in many products and applications with unique and permanent self-disinfecting properties. It provides:

  • Powerful disinfecting action that leaves up to 1,000 times fewer microbes on the textile and fights microbes up to 150 times faster, working continuously for a period of 48 hours.
  • Permanent self-disinfecting protection that lasts throughout a product’s useful lifetime.
  • Environmentally friendly performance through washable, reusable textiles that replace single-use, disposable solutions.
  • Treatment that results in non-leaching textiles, which retain a fabric’s full comfort and is safe for skin contact2)

APPLICATIONS

Water Purification

Water Purification

663 million people worldwide have no access to safe drinking water, which exposes them to serious health risks3). Water filters equipped with Livinguard-treated textiles eliminate water-borne pathogens from fresh water, producing clean drinking water at incomparably low cost. Livinguard water purification solutions are the superior answer to the problem of clean drinking water, particularly for developing countries. Over 13 million people in rural India are already drinking water purified with Livinguard technology4).

Air Purification

Air Purification

Deteriorating air quality in urban areas and the spread of infectious diseases like tuberculosis increase the demand for air cleaning and purification systems. Air filters and face masks equipped with Livinguard technology effectively block pollutants and eliminate air-borne microorganisms to create a hygienic, comfortable environment.

Personal Hygiene

Personal Care

80% of rural women in developing countries5) have no access to sanitary napkins or tampons, which subjects them to health risks, social stigmatization and economic pressures. Applying its breakthrough technology, Livinguard developed a dedicated sanitary solution for low-income women in developing countries, named Saafkins. It provides affordable, reusable 12-hour sanitary protection. The technology can also enhance incontinence products with self-disinfecting properties.

Home Care

Home Care

Bathrooms, kitchens and bedrooms teem with microbial growth. Studies show that flushing a toilet can suspend microbial droplets in the air for hours6). Incorporating Livinguard self-disinfecting technology into home and bath textiles reduces unpleasant odors, stains and exposure to germs due to microbial presence, making your home a more hygienic and comfortable place for your family.

Functional wear

Functional Wear

Sportswear, workwear and other functional apparel encounter demanding conditions every day. Sweat leaves stains and unpleasant odors caused by microorganisms. Uniforms in the medical and food industries become inundated with germs in highly contaminated environments. Livinguard technology endows clothing with self-disinfecting properties that reduce exposure to microbes and make textile care more economical and environmentally friendly.

Healthcare

Health Care

Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) account for 100,000 deaths per year in the US alone, far more than diabetes and heart failure7). Livinguard’s self-disinfecting technology can be added to various medical products and supplies, endowing them with effective protection against disease-causing pathogens. It enables new breakthrough products in areas such as medical textiles and wound care to be created.

Cleaning Products

Cleaning Wipes

Wipes and towels used in kitchens and bathrooms, in wet warm environments, abound in microbes. They can leave unwanted stains and odors and increase the risk of transmitting pathogens. Livinguard technology eliminates these unwanted microorganisms via treated textiles, extending product life and making frequently used areas in family homes more hygienic and comfortable.

Other Applications

Other Applications

Livinguard technology also enhances the safety and value of other products that incorporate textiles such as food preparation & storage equipment, outdoor equipment and appliances.

1) Testing conducted by GLP Lab Biodetek in Mesa AZ, USA. Tests on textiles after 30 washes found that Livinguard technology achieved a kill of more than 5 logs in 10 minutes over a period of 48 hours and with 12 inoculations after 30 industrial washes with 5% organic soil, an efficiency which the US Environmental Protection Agency qualifies as self-disinfecting” in protocol 90072PA4, view test report (PDF).

2) Testing conducted by The South India Research Association according to ISO standard 10993:10 found that textiles treated with Livinguard technology are considered to be non-irritant to skin, view test report (PDF), and testing conducted according to ISO standard 10993:5 found that the textiles are showed no cytotoxic reactivity to L929 cells after 24 hours of contact, view test report (PDF).
